So, I have all these empty boxes from Birchbox that I’ve been wanting to make into a makeup box like on the Birchbox blog… but the instructions were too freakin confusing… lol. I finally got around to figuring it out myself… took a little tweaking & re-taping here and there, but it turned out pretty cute!
Alright… ready? Let’s go!
- 5 Birchbox box bottoms and 3 box tops
- 3 ribbons
- duck tape
Step 1: Take 2 of the box BOTTOMS and cut off one long side from each (cut them in one piece because you’ll need these for the next step). These will be used for the right & left sides of your makeup box, with the open end forward.
Step 2: Take the long side pieces that were just cut off and cut them in half, width wise. We’ll use them as drawer runners.
Step 3: Begin at the bottom of one SIDE box (from step 1) and use an un-cut box bottom as a guide. Secure the drawer runners in place with duct tape, 2 on each side. Make certain to check that they line up!
Step 4: Take a box TOP and cut off one long end. This will be your makeup box bottom, with the open end forward.
Step 5: Take another unused box TOP and cut off ALL the sides. This will be the back of your makeup box. Leave the 3rd box TOP untouched.
Let’s put it all together!
Step 6: Tape the two SIDES to the makeup box BOTTOM and tape the back (from step 5) in place.
This is what it looks like from the front…
Step 7: Poke a small hole at the front center of one of the 3 box BOTTOMs that you will use as drawers. Insert your ribbon, create a loop, and tie it secure. Do this for the two other box BOTTOMs.
Step 8: Slide the drawers in and…
I have my favorite Birchbox samples organized in them now… haha. What do you think? 🙂
