I’m clearly late to the party (as usual), but being a mommy blog, I felt obligated to acknowledge the subject of “Mommy Wars” just this once. I personally think it’s pointless… I mean, who the hell has the time?
Yes, yes… mommy wars are stupid because women should support and encourage each other… “Go You!” and #mommypower! Yes, all that… but… do you know WHY I think it’s stupid? Like, the TRUEST, REALEST REASON?
LACK OF FREAKIN TIME.
Most moms have trouble finding a few minutes of “alone” time while the baby sleeps or when the kids are at school… heck, we all remember how hard it was to take 5 minutes to shower every day! So WHERE do people get the time and energy to bash other moms?
I’m NOT kidding.
Granted, I make time for myself to smell good and recharge, but those times are intentionally scheduled into my day! I have a child to take care of… a business to run… life responsibilities… and everything else that gets squeezed in between my most important priorities. Concerning myself over whether another mom bottle feeds vs. breastfeed… or works full-time vs stay at home… well, those things don’t concern me.
Unless someone actually asked for my opinion about an area of parenting… what difference do my preferences make on anyone else?
Like, if the child(ren) is loved, healthy, safe, thriving, and happy… what exactly is the problem?
I’m a single mom… people have always expressed their strong opinions about the importance for Joshua to have a father. I guess I should rush into a relationship so THEY will feel better about MY life choices? And I breastfed my son until he was two and a half… TWO AND A HALF years old!!! Do I think less of those who bottle feed their babies? NO… and WHY??? Oh, and I’ve home schooled my son for six years and he’s done exceptionally well… should I make time in my schedule to condemn other moms who keep their children in traditional schools?
I don’t get it? What is the point?
We all have things to do… responsibilities to take care of… trying to stay BALANCED through it all…
We have our own little people to love, nurture, and guide so they can go off and become caring, responsible, people who contribute amazing things to this world… we have to make certain they’re ready to become and do all that even AFTER we’re gone… and THAT in itself is a HUMONGOUS responsibility.
There’s really no time to waste on butting into other people’s lives like that… so mind your own business already… geezus.
