Birchbox August 2013 Review

what-is-birchbox

I was fairly pleased with last month’s Birchbox… pretty much used up all the product samples already (except the InStain Long-Wearing Powder Staining Blush because I’m not a “blush” person…)! So I was totally ready to receive my next box and try more beauty goodies!!

My August Birchbox…

juice-beautyJuice Beauty | Oil-free Moisturizer

This is an oil-free lotion to hydrate oily & blemish-prone skin with natural antioxidants and hyaluronic acid.

I must have the most sensitive skin I know… like I break out from taking deep breaths #dramaqueen. Seriously tho, I use Johnson’s Baby Lotion to moisturize… too chicken to use anything else.

Sooo… I tried it first on my wrist, and my skin did NOT break out into boils or burn off (good sign!). The texture is really light and the scent is light enough for even me (and it doesn’t linger for very long)…

(Sample Value: $7 ~ Retail: $28/2 fl oz )

Miss Jessie’s Original | Rapid Recovery Treatment & Super Sweetback Treatment

From the description card: The nourishing Super Sweetback promotes hair growth, and rapid Recovery smooths damaged strands.

Awesome! I’m all about haircare. The Rapid Recovery packet says it’s for “repairing dry brittle curls”… I don’t have curls. But the Super Sweetback states “deep treatment for growing out naturally curly, kinky, and wavy hair.” When I’m out under the sun for too long, my hair starts feeling kinky… and I go thru phases when my hair is naturally wavy… (lol don’t ask – I don’t even understand).

Gonna give these a shot… help in keeping my hair healthy is always a plus!

(Sample Value: $3 ~ Retail: $26 each )

modelcoModelCo | Party Proof Lipstick

This is a semi-matte lipstick that hydrates and stays put!

I received a full-sized tube in “Dusk Til Dawn” from their “Neutrals” collection. Totally perfect because I don’t like shades that are too BRIGHT or DARK… neutrals is the only way to go for me in this department!

(Sample Value: $8 ~ Retail: $24 for a set of 3)

violet-oasis

Violet Oasis | 100% Organic Argan Oil

This is a quick-absorbing oil that provides vitamin E and essential fatty acids that moisturize skin, fight wrinkles, imperfections (like acne scars & discoloration), and creating a healthy glow. It also… helps control frizz and adds suppleness to hair!

Reviews on the product page ranged from “I loved it!” & “it made my hair so soft”, to “made my skin break out” to “my hair felt weighed down & oily”. Eeeek… Not taking a chance with it on my face, but MIGHT give it a try to the ends of my hair.

(Sample Value: $2.70 ~ Retail: $39.95/60ml )

birchbox-bobbypinsBirchbox Bobby Pins

Snag-free enamel and a slight upward bend at the tip helps these bobby pins slide easily over strands.

These are nothing like the little, black bobby pins I know! Patterns are cute and they hold my hair out of my face perfectly! I think they’re also great to use just as hair cuties too!

(Sample Value: $1.60 ~ Retail: $5/set of 6 )

Value of all contents in this box: $22.30!

I’m quite pleased with my August box. I love the shade of ModelCo lipstick I received, and will defo be using it regularly. The Juice Beauty oil-free moisturizer will go into my purse for whenever I need it out under the sun! I really like the cute Birchbox bobby pins and look forward to trying Miss Jessie’s hair repair products as well!

Behind the scene info:

The polish I have on is the Color Club: Reign in Spain I received in my June box.

I’m usually a pink/pearl/french tip kinda chick, but I gave this neon coral a chance, and I think I’m a fan!
